Assistant teacher - hiring

Blessing Farm and Forest is looking for a warm, calm, and dependable teacher assistant to join our small outdoor preschool community.

The most important qualities we are looking for are a gentle presence, a genuine love for young children, and the ability to follow the lead of the teacher. Our mornings have a simple, peaceful rhythm. We sing, tell stories, care for the space, care for animals, garden, explore the woods, and spend long stretches of time in free play.

We are looking for someone who is happy to slow down and do simple, repetitive things alongside children—washing dishes, sweeping, digging in the garden, harvesting herbs or helping a child with a task. Much of the beauty of this work is found in doing ordinary things together, without needing to entertain or direct the children.

The right person will be:

  • Warm, calm, patient, and kind

  • Comfortable following the lead of the teacher

  • Happy working quietly and steadily alongside children

  • Genuinely interested in young children and their development

  • Comfortable being outdoors in all kinds of weather

  • Dependable and willing to help wherever needed

  • Comfortable with physical work such as hiking, gardening, cleaning, and lifting

Previous experience working with children is helpful, but the right temperament is more important than experience.

This is a good position for someone who finds joy in a slower pace, simple work, nature, and the everyday magic of young children.

Hours: 16–22.5hours per week
Typical hours: 8:30 AM–1:00 PM or 8:30 AM - 11:30 PM
Pay: $18–$20/hour
School year: September–June, with occasional summer camps

Substitute teacher - hiring

Blessing Farm and Forest is looking for a warm, reliable substitute teacher who can step into our rhythm and become a calm, supportive presence for our children and team.

Our program is a small, outdoor, Waldorf-inspired preschool where children spend their days playing, exploring nature, caring for animals, creating, and participating in meaningful work. We are looking for someone who is comfortable being outdoors in all weather, enjoys being around young children, and is able to quietly observe, learn our rhythms, and naturally blend into our community.

The ideal person is someone who:

  • Has a calm, steady presence and enjoys supporting children without needing to be the center of attention

  • Learns through observation and can quickly pick up our daily rhythm, expectations, and ways of interacting with children

  • Is warm, patient, and genuinely enjoys being with young children

  • Is comfortable spending extended periods outdoors in changing weather conditions

  • Can support children through play, practical work, animal care, meals, and daily routines

  • Is open to learning about Waldorf early childhood education and our nature-based approach

Classroom experience is welcome, but it is not required. We value experience caring for and interacting with children, a willingness to learn, and the ability to connect with children in a respectful and thoughtful way.
